cool Welcome to Second Grade! cool

Hello! My name is Ms. Jo-Vonah Little and I will be your child’s second grade teacher this year. This is my first year in second, but I have taught Kindergarten for the past 4 years.  I have had the honor of attending and graduating from St. A’s. After graduating, I continued to serve the St. A’s school community. Any free time I had, most likely you would find me at the school. I have had the opportunity to work with the children through the summers and have helped in the office during the school years. Prior to COVID, I even had the opportunity to teach dance the past few years for the 4th-8th grade. This past year, I was able to teach dance for grades 1-3. I have an associate degree, bachelor's degree, and always eager to learn new things! I am super excited for the school year to begin so I can meet all of you. I look forward to learning and growing along with both the students and parents. I have always enjoyed going to school and my goal is for your children to feel the same way!

Attached to this letter, you will find an All About My Child form and a Back to School Pledge of Attendance. Please make sure both are completed and returned by Friday, September 5th.

Listed below are a few things that will help with the first week back to school.

🗓️ First Day of School

School begins on September 3rd, and the school day starts promptly at 8:00 AM. Please make sure your child arrives on time and is ready to learn! I encourage you to strive to arrive by 7:50 AM!

Students are expected to wear the proper school uniform daily( including the proper footwear). Our uniform policy may be found in the Student Handbook. Grade 2 gym day is Monday and will begin on the 8th. They are to wear their gym uniform on Mondays only unless notified otherwise. Students are permitted to wear sneakers *only *on gym days.

☀️ Summer Assignments Reminder

Please make sure your child brings their completed Summer Reading Project, ELA/math packet, and Reading log . The summer assignment was given to the students in a green folder at the end of the school year. There are copies in the school office and may be found on the school website. These activities help review key skills and ease the transition into second grade. They are due no later than September 8th. This will count as their first math and ELA grade.

📚 Back to School Night

Please join us for Back to School Night on September 10th 6:30 PM. This will be a great opportunity to meet me, learn about our classroom routines, and ask any questions you may have. We will discuss topics such as : classroom expectations, schedule/routines, homework policies, grading policies, lateness/attendance, Chromebooks, and an overview of the curriculum.

📖 Homework

A tentative homework sheet will be given out weekly. The homework will also be posted on Google Classroom and the school website.  It should be signed each night once the child has completed all of the assignments. Homework will be checked each day. Your child will also be expected to read daily at home. * If there are any changes with assignments within the week, you will be notified. *

*For the week of September 3rd, there will not be a homework sheet for the week. The assignments will be given each day. Monday, September 8th will begin the weekly homework sheets. *

📬 Communication

I believe that strong communication between home and school is key to student success! I will send home weekly newsletters and/or use email, Class dojo, and the school website   for updates and reminders. You can also reach me by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call the school office. If you would like to schedule a meeting with me, the meeting will be held in the morning before school starts or after school.

🍎 Breakfast & Lunch

Breakfast and lunch  begins September 3rd. The earliest drop off for breakfast is 6:30 AM. The children should be aware of whether they are bringing lunch or eating school lunch. If they are bringing their own lunch, please do not pack anything that needs to be refrigerated or reheated. NO: soda, glass bottles, or cans.

Per school policy, the students will no longer have a designated snack break. Students may bring a reusable PLASTIC water bottle. NO: Stanley Cups or disposable water bottles. Water bottles must not be bigger than 16 oz. They may drink water in the allotted water time and during lunch.

🚌 Transportation

The children should be aware of how they are getting home each day. If there are changes, please email me and notify the office. There is a form attached to this that will let me know the people who are able to pick up the children. If children are not picked up by 3:00pm they will be sent to CARES.  CARES begins Monday, September 8th

📱Electronics

The children may not bring in any toys or electronic devices  beside a cell phone. Phones will be collected at the beginning of the day. They will be held by the teacher for safe keeping and returned  at dismissal.

We are going to have a fantastic year in second grade! I can’t wait to work together to make this a happy, successful school year!

God Bless,
Ms. Little
