7th/8th Gr Mr Coey
Teacher Biography
Mr. Coey
Hello! My name is Mr. Charles Coey. I am the math, science, and religion teacher for the 7th and 8th grades. I am still very new to teaching middle school students, but I do have several years experience teaching at the college level.
I struggled learning math when I was in middle and high school. Then, thanks to good teachers, I started to really understand and enjoy it. I volunteered as a math tutor and discovered the joy of teaching. So, I have a lot of empathy for students who struggle, and I want to help them see they can overcome those challenges!
I am privileged to be here teaching your children at St. A's. I am very happy to speak with you about their progress and performance, or if you have any questions or concerns at all. Class News
Week of October 13th
October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary!
Happy Feast of the Most Holy Rosary (Oct. 7)!
The grades in Option C are now up-to-date, and I will be adding more grades as we move along toward the parent/teacher conferences on Oct. 23rd and 24th. I have created an online sign-up sheet. Please sign-up using the link below if you would like to have a meeting with me. If you cannot make a meeting on these dates for whatever reason, we can certainly schedule one at another time.

7th Grade News:
- In Math, with our review complete, we have started to move on to the basic skills students will need to work with fractions, mostly importantly "greatest common factor" and "least common denominator".
- In Science, we have finished our review of the scientific method and are prepared to start learning more about the life sciences. This week we will start learning about the building blocks for all living things; the cell!
- In Religion, Fr. Anayo had to miss his classes this week. Instead we talked about the "liturgical calendar". Students have to choose a feast day from the calendar and write a short report.
8th Grade News:
- In Math, we have started learning about "irrational numbers". We will probably finish that topic early next week and then have a test.
- In Science, we finished our review of the scientific method and we are ready to start learning about atoms and molecules.
- In Religion, Fr. Anayo had to miss his classes this week, but students do have work from the catechism, as usual, and we took the extra time to learn about the history of the Church, from the Acts of the Apostles to the present day!
