Teacher Biography

Mr. Coey

Hello! My name is Mr. Charles Coey. I am the math, science, and religion teacher for the 7th and 8th grades. I am still very new to teaching middle school students, but I do have several years experience teaching at the college level.

I struggled learning math when I was in middle and high school. Then, thanks to good teachers, I started to really understand and enjoy it. I volunteered as a math tutor and discovered the joy of teaching. So, I have a lot of empathy for students who struggle, and I want to help them see they can overcome those challenges!

I am privileged to be here teaching your children at St. A's. I am very happy to speak with you about their progress and performance, or if you have any questions or concerns at all. Please write me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I will try to respond within 24 hours at the most.

God bless you and your family!

Class News

Week of January 5th

Welcome back! Happy New Year!

We will try to hit the ground running as we get into the second trimester. Students in 7th grade will have their TerraNova tests before you know it (March 18th - 25th), and we want to help them be as prepared as possible.

7th Grade News:

  • In Math, we are going to establish a routine, to help students better know what to expect and to help us move quickly through the topics building up to the TerraNova. There will be an assessment each week, on Friday. It will cover the main points of the lesson from that week. Students will take a practice test and be given the answer key to study (on Thursday). We will have a trial run of our routine this week, where we will be studying ratios and proportions.
  • In Science, we will be switching to a new book, hopefully very soon. We will spend a little time reviewing the material from the past trimester. We will also go to the lab to conduct an investigation of cells using microscopes.
  • In Religion, we will be moving back to lessons from the catechism, but students will still complete the religion project from last trimester, primarily through homework assignments.

8th Grade News:

  • In Math, we will begin a new subject this week: expressions and equations. We will review the basic skills for simplifying and solving equations before we move into linear functions.
  • In Science, we will be switching to a new book, hopefully very soon. We will have a short review of the basics about atoms and molecules before we move on to chemical reactions.
  • In Religion, like 7th grade, we will be moving back to lessons from the catechism, but will still complete the religion project through at-home work.
