Teacher Biography

Mr. Coey

Hello! My name is Mr. Charles Coey. I am the math, science, and religion teacher for the 7th and 8th grades. I am still very new to teaching middle school students, but I do have several years experience teaching at the college level.

I struggled learning math when I was in middle and high school. Then, thanks to good teachers, I started to really understand and enjoy it. I volunteered as a math tutor and discovered the joy of teaching. So, I have a lot of empathy for students who struggle, and I want to help them see they can overcome those challenges!

I am privileged to be here teaching your children at St. A's. I am very happy to speak with you about their progress and performance, or if you have any questions or concerns at all. Please write me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I will try to respond within 24 hours at the most.

God bless you and your family!

Class News

Week of October 6th

October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary!

Happy Feast of the Most Holy Rosary (Oct. 7)!

In class news, I am still working to update all grades in the Option C grade book. My goal is to have all grades entered by Friday afternoon. So, please, check Option C over this coming weekend and contact me with any questions or concerns.

7th Grade News:

  • In Math, we took our first real test on Chapter 1 last week. This was the end to our review of the material from last year, and this week we will begin learning new things, starting with fractions.
  • In Science, we are going to finish up our scientific investigation into which brand of paper towel is truly the "quicker-picker-upper"! Students will perform their experiments and submit their findings early next week.
  • In Religion, Fr. Anayo asked the students to make a visit to their family's place of worship and to reflect on the meaning and importance of worship.

8th Grade News:

  • In Math, we will have a retake of the Chapter 1 test this week, and then we will have to move on to cover more material this trimester. But, any students who need more review and assistance are very welcome to join us for math tutoring on Mondays right after school (3 - 4 PM)!
  • In Science, we will perform our "paper towel experiment" this week. The goal of this exercise is to sharpen the student's scientific thinking before we dive deeper into physics and chemistry over the rest of the year.
  • In Religion, Fr. Anayo assigned the students to research the difference between "mental health" and "mental illness" , as well as the definition of the term "stigma". Students were supposed to write a one-paragraph summary of what they learned.
